Fish farm jobs boost for Eday
Over £1.3 million has been invested in a new fish farm site in Eday, by leading aquaculture company Scottish Sea Farms.
The new site opened this week with the creation of six jobs. With a local population of only 150, this number of new jobs has been welcomed by the community.
Local Area Manager, Richard Darbyshire of Scottish Sea Farms, said: “The waters around Eday are renowned for their fast flowing currents and high water quality. This environment is ideal for growing strong muscular fish of premium quality. To farm in such an environment has required a high level of investment in the latest state of the art mooring systems and circular cages.”
Eday is Scottish Sea Farms’ fifth production site within Orkney.
