Friends of Happy Valley up for prestigious award

Springtime daffodils at Happy Valley.

Friends of Happy Valley — the charity group which cares for the much-loved and magical woodland garden in Stenness — is in the running for a prestigious national award.

The RSPB Scotland’s prestigious Nature of Scotland Awards, along with co-sponsor Scottish Natural Heritage, recognises and celebrates people and projects who passionately work towards excellence and innovation in Scottish conservation.

And this year, Friends of Happy Valley is one of seven nominees for the Community Initiative Award.

The Friends of Happy Valley has continued, and developed further, the work of Edwin Harrold in maintaining and enhancing a site that is unique to Orkney.

They hope that their sensitive stewardship will lead to Happy Valley, the home of the woodland garden, being a source of learning and enjoyment for many years to come.

The Community Initiative Award goes to an outstanding community-based initiative that clearly demonstrates what it has done for the benefit of nature

The winners are set to be announced on Thursday, November 22.
