Hill fire in Stronsay quickly brought under control

A small area of heath land in Stronsay was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon.

The island’s fire unit attended and quickly brought the blaze under control using a hose reel jet and beaters.

A Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the fire— which covered an area of roughly ten metres by two metres — was reported at 1.38pm and extinguished shortly before 2pm.

It has not been confirmed how it started.
