Hoy Half-marathon celebrates 30th birthday
The 30th Hoy Half-marathon was a resounding success this afternoon as 139 competitors completed the course.
Tim Ross from Rendall was the first to cross the finish line in 1.21.09, just under six minutes quicker than second-placed Craig Mattocks.
The first woman home was 42-year-old Katie Jenkins from Peebles in 1.39.10, finishing 14th in her first half-marathon.
Starting in Rackwick on what was an overcast day at that point, the competitors faced a strong and unforgiving headwind over the 13.1-mile course, but were rewarded for their efforts as the island basked in glorious sunshine in the afternoon.
There was also a special presentation given to 71-year-old John Mowat in honour of completing all 30 half-marathons.
