International delegates in Orkney for a weekend of CHAT
Seventy delegates from around the globe have started arriving in the county for an international archaeology conference.
The University of the Highlands and Island Archaeology Institute is hosting the annual Contemporary and Historical Archaeology in Theory (CHAT) conference, which, this year, focuses on rurality.
According to the organisers, the conference will explore the varied experiences of rural areas archaeologically, explore the social and political economies, landscapes and materialities of the recent past and present in rural areas and islands.
With a multi-disciplinary group of archaeologists, anthropologists, geographers, historians and artists, the talks during the conference will range from archaeologies of rural landscapes in St Kilda, Nova Scotia, and Greece, to the archaeology of rural protest and management of rapid change.
The three-day conference, which ends on Sunday, will be live tweeted (#CHAT2016 @CHATArch) with updates posted on Facebook.
