Kirkwall BID is on the hunt for new board members – and Easter Eggs!

On 2nd March it was announced that an overwhelming majority of businesses in central Kirkwall had voted for BID to be continued for another five years.

Chair, Serena Sutherland said, ‘Over 80% of businesses that voted were in favour of BID continuing, which is a great endorsement of everything we have done in the first five years of our existence. I think the public are hugely supportive of BID initiatives such as the winter lights, the benches and planters and, above all the various promotional events we run throughout the year. People love to see the heart of Kirkwall as a vibrant, busy, and well-maintained area, and they really appreciate BID’s efforts to keep it that way.’

Building on the success of the Kirkwall BID 2013-2018, the board hopes to continue with town improvement projects throughout the BID area, as well as developing the well-loved annual programme of events, such as the Girls’ Day Out and the Halloween Parade.

The latest BID-organised event is the popular Easter Egg Hunt, which this year runs from Saturday 31st March to Monday 16th April. 50 businesses around the town centre have BID Easter Eggs hidden somewhere on their premises, and the challenge for kids of all ages is to track down as many as possible! There are great prizes too! (See advert for details.)

BID is also on the lookout – for new board members. Serena Sutherland said, ‘Now that BID has its future assured, I am standing down from the role of Chair. I’m delighted that David Campbell has agreed to take on this position – but this move, and a few other changes in people’s availability, does mean that BID needs several more volunteers to be on its board.’

New chair David Campbell added, ‘I’m delighted to be taking up this role at this exciting time for Kirkwall BID. I’d urge any other member who has an interest in keeping the heart in Kirkwall to contact us with a view to joining the board. It’s a rewarding challenge, in good company, and is really not that onerous.’
