MP’s delight at Post Office mortgage rethink
A decision by the Post Office to extend its mortgage coverage to Scottish Islands has been welcomed by Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael.
His comments come after the Post Office announced that mortgages will now be offered to all major Scottish islands, including Mainland Orkney and Shetland. Outer Isles in Orkney and Shetland are to be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Mr Carmichael spoke with the chief executive of the Post Office, Paula Vennells, last week to raise the issue. Miss Vennells has now confirmed that, after consideration, the policy had been changed.
Mr Carmichael said: “It is important that the Post Office offers services that are available to everybody, in all parts of the country. This seems now to be understood by them and they are acting accordingly.”
