New primary school opens in Evie
Evie school pupils are enjoying their first day in their new school today, Wednesday.
The £2.627m replacement community school has been part funded by the Scottish Government through the Scottish Futures Trust.
Headteacher, Ingrid Rendall, said the children were excited to be in their new school building.
“We’ve had several visits to the new school while it was being built to show children the many aspects of construction, so the anticipation has been mounting,” she said.
“We’re now looking forward to creating many happy memories in the new school building, while we watch the rest of the grounds being completed.”
Chairman of the council’s education, leisure and housing committee, Harvey Johnston, said: “The new school has been a vision for the council and the community since around 2009.
“So it’s very rewarding for everyone who’s been involved over the years in this project to see pupils stepping through the doors of their new school building.
“We really are grateful for the assistance from the Scottish Government for this new school.”
Work on the overall school project will continue for several more months, starting with demolition of the old school later in the winter, followed by laying of a new car park and completion of landscaping. The project is due for completion in spring 2017.
