Orkney RFC to welcome in-form Haddington to Pickaquoy
Orkney RFC are to play host to in-form Haddington RFC, with the home side aiming to end the visitors impressive winning run that has seen them take up second spot in BT National League Division 3.
Not since West of Scotland handed the East Lothian side a 16-11 defeat on Saturday, November 21 have Haddington tasted defeat; a run that has seen them beat Berwick, Dumfries Saints, Dalziel, East Kilbride, RHC, and Perthshire, and propel the East Lothian side into the second automatic promotion spot in the league.
Haddington Head Coach Rhodri Thomas said in this week’s The Orcadian that his side would be coming to the county in confident fashion but thought his side would have to be at their best if they are to come away with a victory. Orkney suffered a narrow 29-24 defeat away to Haddington in October, and the away side are sure to have some vocal backing with around 50 people travelling north via chartered plane from Glasgow.
Orkney’s last match ended in disappointing fashion, being beaten 41-12 away to Dumfries Saints. However, they are four points off fourth-placed Perthshire with a game in hand and know that they can ill-afford to drop many more points if they are to finish in the top four.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 2pm at the Pickaquoy.
This is not the only rugby due to be played on Saturday however, with the Orkney/Caithness Under-18 side due to take on Highland in a rearranged Caledonia Cup clash.
That match is due to kick off at 12.30pm.
