Power cut cause under investigation

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) say that it is currently investigating the cause of a fault which caused over 6000 properties in Orkney to lose power last night.

SSEN said this morning that engineers were alerted to a fault on the high voltage network at 11.50pm.

This initially affected 6,300 properties in Kirkwall, Finstown, Tankerness, Firth, Orphir and surrounding areas.

Engineers restored power to customers in stages, with all customers having their power restored by 2.23am.

A spokesperson for SSEN said: “We would like to thank our customers in Orkney for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused as our engineers worked to restore their power as quickly and as safely as possible.”
