Roadworks in Kirkwall over the coming weeks

Motorists in Kirkwall can expect to encounter some delays in the next few weeks as Orkney Islands Council carries out resurfacing work on three roundabouts along the harbour front and a section of Grainshore Road.

The roundabouts to be resurfaced are St Catherine’s Place, Kiln Corner and Ayre Road (at the end of Burgh Road).

Work will start next Monday, September 12, with the resurfacing of the St Catherine’s Place roundabout. This will be followed by work on the Kiln Corner roundabout the following Monday,  September 19, and the Ayre Road roundabout on Monday, September 26 September 2016.

According to the OIC, it is expected that each roundabout will take around a week to resurface. Some sections of road will have to be closed while work is carried out, but the council says closures will be kept to a minimum and temporary signage will be in place to show diversions.

The resurfacing work on Grainshore Road is due to start on Monday, October 3, and should last for around one week.
