Rural affairs secretary praises food and drink producers

Scotland’s rural affairs secretary, Richard Lochhead, has praised Orkney’s food and drink industry for the quality of its produce.
Attending today’s County Show, in Kirkwall, Mr Lochhead said:”With fine agricultural land and a close proximity to the sea, Orkney’s food and drink larder is overflowing with excellent products.
“I’m pleased to have the opportunity to see and sample a selection of the quality produce on offer at this year’s County Show. Food and drink is proving a major draw to tourism on the islands, which has increased steadily over recent years.”
He added: “I’m also looking forward to meeting Orkney farmers and hearing their views and concerns, particularly at a time when the Common Agricultural Policy negotiations are under way.”
