Scapa Flow torpedo to be destroyed today
A wartime German torpedo, found in Scapa Flow in February, is due to be destroyed today, Wednesday.
An exclusion zone has been in place around the ordnance, which was discovered during a routine seabed survey in Scapa Flow. The torpedo is thought to be one of those fired from the German U-boat which attacked, and sank, HMS Royal Oak in October 1939.
A team of Royal Navy divers will go to the site this morning and destroy the torpedo in a controlled explosion.
