Serious road traffic collision

Police in Orkney are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision on the Orphir road.

Emergency services were called to the collision on the A964 near Scapa Distillery at 8.56am.

The collision involved a white Vauxhall Corsa and a red Nissan Navara.

As a result of the collision an 18-year-old woman was initially taken to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall with what are described as serious injuries

She has since been transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for further treatment.

The road remains closed and officers from the road policing unit in Dingwall are travelling to Orkney to assist local officers with the investigation.

A local diversion is in place.

Sergeant Gus Murray of the road policing unit said: “Our inquiries into this collision are at an early stage and I would appeal to any witnesses to contact us as soon as possible.”
