Stromness Academy’s sporting volunteer of the year

Stromness Academy pupil David Porteous has been presented with a Young Volunteer of the Year Award in the Orkney sportscotland coaching, officiating and volunteering awards 2013.

The awards were introduced in 2012 to recognise the hard work and dedication that local coaches and volunteers put in to sports.

David was nominated by the PE department at Stromness Academy for his commitment to promoting various sports within the school and the wider community, including introducing handball as an extracurricular activity and assisting with the schools under 15s girls and under 14s boys rugby teams.

David was presented with his award by Michael Swanney, Orkney Islands Council’s active schools coordinator.
