Tough Times axe could fall on Orkneyinga Saga Centre

The Orkneyinga Saga Centre in Orphir is to close on September 30, unless a community-based solution can be found to run the facility.

The interpretation centre, which gives an introduction to the 12th century saga of the new Earls of Orkney, is to become a victim of Orkney Islands Council’s Tough Times — Tough Choices.

A spokesman from the council said they are working closely with community groups about facilities at risk of closure to explore other options.

Councillors at a recent OIC education and leisure services committee agreed on measures which could help take this wish forward, specifically in relation to the Orkneyinga Saga Centre.
