Royal Oak survivor passes away
Tributes have been paid to one of the last remaining survivors of the sinking of HMS Royal Oak, who sadly passed away at the weekend.
Bert Pocock, from Reading, was a regular visitor to Orkney, taking part in the memorial services held over the Scapa Flow wreck site each October, marking the anniversary of the sinking of the battleship.
HMS Royal Oak sank after being struck with torpedoes from a German U-boat in 1939, with the loss of over 800 lives.
Mr Pocock always said that it was very emotional to return to Scapa Flow and remember his friends who lost their lives in the World War Two tragedy.
