Council election candidates named
Thirty-eight candidates have put themselves forward for election in Orkney for the local Council elections in May.
Elections will be held in five out of the six wards in Orkney following the close of nominations.
Nominations closed at 4pm today and with three Stromness and the South Isles candidates putting themselves forward, an election won’t be needed for this ward. The three candidates – they are Rob Crichton, James Stockan and Magnus Thomson – will be declared as councillors on May 4.
The five other wards have more candidates than the number of seats available.

Elections will be held on May 4, with polling stations open between 7am and 10pm. The count takes place on Friday, May 5, with declarations expected before lunchtime.
