Council funding for three community projects

Three community projects secured vital funding today at a meeting of the OIC’s Community Development Fund sub-committee.

Kirkwall Bowling Club received £68,721 for the installation of an artificial bowling green at Brandyquoy Park.
Stronsay Community Play Park Action Group secured £16,099 for the upgrading of Ward Hill play area on the island.
St Andrew’s Community Association received £15,569 for the upgrading of the St Andrews Community Centre garden and car park.

All three projects are dependent on the groups securing additional match funding from elsewhere.

The £1m Community Development Fund is aimed at community projects which enrich quality of life and have lasting benefits.

Orkney Islands Council convener, Councillor Steven Heddle, said: “The groups behind these proposals have invested a lot of time and effort into developing these projects, which will be of great benefit to their communities.

“Projects like these are what the CDF was set up for – to help community led projects go ahead that are outwith the statutory remit of the council, but make Orkney a better place to live.

“We are pleased to be able to support these projects and wish the groups the best of luck in moving them forward.”
