Former care worker removed from social register
An Orkney man has been removed from the Scottish Social Services Register following allegations of misconduct spanning a six-year period.
According to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), the removal of Bryan Magnus Park was “both necessary and justified in the public interest … ”
In the notice of decision, the SSSC outlined a series of allegations, including shouting at care clients and abusive and threatening behaviour. It is understood that Mr Park was an employee of St Rognvald House care facility in Kirkwall.
In a statement, Orkney Islands Council, said: “We fully support the findings of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and actions taken.
“People have the right to expect a safe, reassuring and positive care environment – for themselves and their family members. All complaints regarding the treatment of service users are investigated fully.
“While we cannot discuss details of OIC’s internal disciplinary actions in any specific case, the person concerned is no longer employed by Orkney Islands Council.
“Referral by OIC of the person’s behaviour to the SSSC, and the SSSC’s actions outlined in the report, ensure they also cannot work throughout Scotland in adult social care. Orkney Islands Council is committed to providing high quality care services. The unacceptable actions of one former employee in no way reflect on our care workforce as a whole.
“There clearly were lessons to be learnt with regards to the way that concerns at work are highlighted and acted upon, which the service has taken forward with staff at all levels.”
