Lifeboat cycle breaks 500 mile barrier
RNLI fundraising cyclists Brian Ratter and Brian Hughes, who are taking on the challenge of cycling 800 miles around the Highlands and Islands – visiting 18 lifeboat stations along the way to raise funds for the RNLI – have now broken the 500 mile barrier.
The pair, who left Orkney last Tuesday, have now visited 10 lifeboat stations, and have begun the journey north.
Yesterday the cyclists, along with support vehicle driver Harcus Hutchison, made it Tobermory Lifeboat Station, then carried on an extra 21 miles to their accommodation.
Today, they were planning on catching a ferry to Oban, visiting the station there, and then head to Fort William.
The three are set to arrive back in Orkney on Saturday afternoon, the same day at a major RNLI fundraiser takes place at Kirkwall Lifeboat Station and in the St Ola Hotel.
On Saturday a host of events are set to begin at the station at 12 noon, and in the hotel from 2pm until late.
