Lifeboat launched after clam diver reported missing

Kirkwall Lifeboat was called out, for the second time yesterday, just after 5pm to assist in the search for a clam diver missing off Shapinsay.

Shetland Coastguard called the RNLI station to say that the vessel Fair Morn had reported one of its clam divers had not been sighted resurfacing. The dive boat was operating off the Ness of Ork, to the north-east of Shapinsay at the time.

The lifeboat arrived at the scene to find the diver had been recovered safely. Two Orkney Ferries vessels had also been involved in the search.

The diver remained on the Fair Morn as they returned to Kirkwall, escorted by Kirkwall Lifeboat.
