Local gin hits the shelves of national supermarket chain

Stephen and Aly Kemp, who run Orkney Distilling Ltd., are pleased to see their gin — Kirkjuvagr — sold through a national retailer.

One of Orkney’s three local gin brands is set to go on the shelves of a national supermarket chain. Kirkjuvagr, produced by Orkney Distilling Ltd. will soon be on sale at 70 Co-op stores throughout Scotland.

For the husband and wife team behind the gin, Stephen and Aly Kemp, this is a big leap forward.  Having sold their first gins just under a year ago, they are toasting their first listing with a national retailer.

“We are delighted,” said Stephen.

“Aly and myself had spoken for so long about creating a gin brand to add to the quality branded food and drink that exports from Orkney – it was a dream and we knew that we would regret it if we didn’t seize the chance.”

The gin-making duo hope that this will be another step forward in their plans to expand the Orkney Distilling brand even further.

“The Co-op’s history, brand and ethos are a great fit with our brand,” Stephen continued.

“Their stores are valued in the local, and often rural, communities which they serve. It opens up new markets for our gin, raising awareness of our brand at a key time in our business development.”
