Police name man who died in Longhope accident

Police have named the man who died in an industrial accident at the Longhope pier on Tuesday as Christopher Hartley, of Cooper Square, Thurso.

According to a police spokesman, the incident, which involved a digger, saw Mr Hartley, 45, sustaining crush injuries and despite attempts by Scottish Ambulance Service personnel at the scene he died.

The Health and Safety Executive has been notified and a report into the incident will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
