McArthur supports Gaza ceasefire
Orkney MSP Liam McArthur has this week joined MSPs from across Scottish Parliament in calling for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
Following a debate focused on the issue, which took place in the chamber yesterday evening, Mr McArthur said: “Colleagues from all parties spoke passionately about the need to end bloodshed in Gaza. This conflict has claimed the lives of far too many people, most of them innocent civilians, and public anger at this unfolding humanitarian crisis was reflected in the contributions from MSPs across the Chamber this evening.”
He said: “The Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg last week called for Britain to suspend sales of military equipment to Israel and a package of aid from the UK has now been put in place. I welcome these moves, but much more urgently needs to be done both to demonstrate our shared opposition to continued conflict and to bring about a lasting peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.”
