OIC to appoint new head of education, leisure and housing
Orkney Islands Council has announced who will take up the role of executive director of education, leisure and housing, when the current executive director, Wilfred Weir, retires later this year.
James Wylie will be taking up the post from Mr Weir, who announced his intention to retire this coming Autumn, after five years in post.
Mr Wylie is currently the council’s Head of Education (Curriculum and Community Learning).
OIC convener, councillor Harvey Johnston, said: “We interviewed a strong field of candidates and I would like to offer my congratulations to James, who has accepted this opportunity to take on a role of great importance to the council and to the wider community we serve.”
Councillor Gwenda Shearer, chairwoman of the education, leisure and housing committee, said: “The post provides the chance to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of children, young people and adult learners, on the tenants of the housing we provide and on the many people who use our leisure facilities — from museums and libraries to swimming pools and healthy living centres.
“I would like to thank all the candidates we interviewed and wish James all the best in this rewarding and challenging new role.”
