Orkney footballers set for Archer Shield clash
Orkney’s footballers travel across the Pentland Firth tomorrow, with hopes of returning with the Archer Shield in their minds.
Orkney take on Caithness in the annual clash, with Karl Adamson naming a 17-man squad in what is set to be his first competitive match as Orkney manager.
Just three of the players who featured in last year’s fixture are called up, while several Thorfinn FC players miss out due to the Kirkwall club’s Highland Amateur Cup tie at the Bignold on Saturday afternoon. Stromness are the most represented club with four players in a squad which also includes Graeme Christie, currently playing in the Clark Thomson Insurance ‘B’ League.
Orkney will be hoping to avenge last year’s 1-0 home defeat. The match set to take place at The Dammies in Thurso at 2pm.
Full Orkney squad: Mark Berry, Chris Simpson, Owen Rendall, Jack Paterson, Joe Wilson, Ryan McFerran, Axel Bondoux, Robbie MacVie, Ross Slater, Neil Aim, Wayne Kirkness, Ryan Allan, Erlend Poke, Chris Hellewell, Steven Hellewell, Graeme Christie, and Daniel Hourston.
