‘Orkney is with Ukraine’

Demonstrators met at Flotta Oil Terminal as planned yesterday to show their opposition to Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine and their solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

The event was initially planned to oppose the arrival of NS Champion to the terminal and the use of Orkney oil by the Russian state.

Since then, Russian vessels have been officially barred from entry into UK ports, as the result of an official amendment to sanctions.

However, the event’s organiser Jane Cooper emphasised that the war has not stopped and Ukrainians are still being killed, so Orcadians turned out once again to deliver a clear message.
