Orkney Open Badminton Champions crowned

The biggest weekend of the year for Orkney badminton players has come to a close with Shona Mackay and Dean Guthrie being named as the 2015 KT Sports Orkney Open Singles Champions. Shona beat Zoe Anderson in a tough three set final on Friday night while Dean beat Orkney’s Gary Nicolson in the men’s final in two sets to be crowned as champions.

Also played on Friday was the plate competitions with Karen Kent beating sparring partner Cath Bremner in the women’s final while Thorfinn Miller lost out to Ramsey Hogg in the men’s final.

In Saturday’s action, the mixed double and double competitions were played with Ann Wood and Zoe Anderson winning the Ladies Doubles while Graham and Gordon Keith won the Mens Doubles showpiece. Orkney’s Joanne Pottinger and Gary Nicolson were defeated by Zoe Anderson and Ramsay Hogg in the Mixed Doubles.
