Orkney youth group nominated for Young Scot community award
A youth group from Orkney has been nominated for a prestigious Young Scot Award, the nation’s biggest celebration of young people.
The West Mainland Award Group in Stromness has been shortlisted for the community award for their wide range of work in the local community and will find out whether they’ve been successful on Thursday, April 10, at the Young Scot Awards celebration in Glasgow.
Youth Scotland Orkney area co-ordinator Maureen Herdman, who is also the area co-ordinator for Orkney Islands Council, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the West Mainland Award Group has been nominated for the Young Scot Awards. The group started 18 months ago with six members who wanted to be more involved in their community.
“The group has now become so popular in the community that the phone never stops asking for their help with various projects from toddlers to senior citizens and charities. Their accomplishments are too numerous to cover fully, and these young people certainly deserve recognition for their endeavours and achievements.”
