Parliamentary investigation into MP dropped
A probe by the Westminster Parliamentary Standards Commission into Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael has been “discontinued”.
The investigation, launched by standards commissioner Kathryn Hudson last year, looked into whether or not Mr Carmichael had broken the MPs’ Code of Conduct after leaking a memo during the last General Election which alleged that Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon would have preferred David Cameron remain Prime Minister.
In a report by the standards commissioner, Ms Hudson concludes that the conduct in question “falls outside her remit.”
Commenting after the announcement, Mr Carmichael said: “I am pleased that this is now resolved and will continue to focus on getting on with my job as MP for Orkney and Shetland.”
