Poultry visits to take place in Birsay
Staff from Orkney Islands Council and the Rural Payments Directorate will be in Birsay tomorrow, Monday, carrying out a door to door mapping exercise. This is in order to establish the number of premises where poultry is kept.
The visits will take in Northside, Palace, and much of Marwick.
Warning notices have already been put in place by Trading Standards in the area warning of avian flu in the wild bird population.
Earlier this week a Protection and Surveillance Zone were established around a small domestic poultry holding in Birsay.
No duration has been stipulated at this stage and, in accordance with protocols, representatives from APHA are arranging to travel to Orkney to begin a cull, disposal, and disinfecting of the affected premises.
