Question Time at KGS
S5 pupils put the politicians in the hotseat on Friday, when Kirkwall Grammar School hosted its own version of the BBC’s Question Time.
The debate saw pupils question a panel of local figures, including Alistair Carmichael MP (Liberal Democrat), Dave Stewart MSP (Labour), Dr Donna Heddle (SNP) and Jamie Halcro-Johnston (Conservatives). Kirkwall businesswoman Karen Scholes was there to put a non-party slant on proceedings.
Keeping order in the chair was BBC Radio Orkney’s Dave Gray.
Speaking prior to the debate, Hamish Auskerry, a fifth-year KGS pupil, said: “It gives us fifth years the chance to hear what representatives of the major political parties have to say on the major issues facing Scotland and Orkney.
“It also gives us the chance to ask them the questions that we want answers for, face-to-face on the issues we feel strongly about. I just hope the young folk at the school embrace the opportunity and ensure the representatives don’t have an easy morning!”
