Science Festival gets under way today

The 2015 Orkney International Science Festival gets under way today, with seven days of talks, outings, exhibitions, films, food and drink, concerts and celidhs.

Themes this year include the International Year of Light and the centenary of Einstein’s theory of general relativity.

One of the highlights of the festival, is an evening with Nobel laureate Professor Peter Higgs, where he talks about the ideas that led to the discovery of the Higgs bosun with fellow particle physicist and science writer, Professor Frank Close, which takes place on Monday, September 7 at the Orkney Theatre in Kirkwall.
