Willy Mason, The Sound Archive, Kirkwall

New Kirkwall music venue The Sound Archive are celebrating their official opening weekend with a night of live music from singer-songwriter Willy Mason.

With support from Scottish songstress, Siobhan Wilson, this gig is sure to get you bobbing and swaying, coffee-in-hand, or maybe something stronger! Doors open at 7.30pm.

Orkney Arts & Crafts 50th Anniversary Exhibition, Kirkwall Town Hall

Orkney Arts & Crafts are celebrating their 50th anniversary with an exhibition of handmade and locally designed products from across the county. Open from 9am — 4.30pm (except Sundays), until Tuesday, August 1, this exhibition also displays the history of the group, from its beginning as the Orkney Craft Guild in 1967.

Stromness Writing Group Acrostic Exhibition, Northlight Gallery, Stromness

Stromness Writing Group are hosting a special exhibition at the Northlight gallery, Stromness, as part of the town’s celebrations of 200 years as a Burgh of Barony. The display of acrostic poems, based on street and close names of Stromness, open at the Northlight Gallery today, Friday and will be open 11am — 5pm, daily, until Thursday, June 29.

Fintry Amateur Drama Society, Birsay Community Hall/The Orkney Theatre

One of Scotland’s foremost and active community theatre groups is all set to make its third visit to Orkney in four years — and this time they’re bringing a Royal Shakespeare Company actor with them.

Following performances in Orkney in 2014 and 2015, Fintry Amateur Dramatic Society (FADS) will be presenting two multi-award winning one-act plays — The Pushcart Peddlers and Bonking James Bond — in the Birsay Community Hall on Friday, June 23, and in the Orkney Theatre, Kirkwall, the following day.

Orkney Traditional Music Project, Coffee Concert, King Street Halls, Kirkwall

A joint fundraiser organised by Orkney Traditional Music Project (OTMP) and Kirkwall East Church is set to take place in the King Street Halls, this Saturday, June 24. The Coffee Concert will feature fiddle and accordion performances from OTMP students (both young and old), as they celebrate another year of music-making.

The Mayfield Singers, St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall

The Mayfield Singers will be presenting Eternal Light, a concert of sacred and secular music by Monteverdi, Vaughan Williams, Saint-Saens, and Alisdair Nicolson, in the St Magnus Centre, this evening, Friday. Doors open 7.30pm.

KAOS, Gable End Theatre, Hoy

This Saturday, June 24, Kirkwall Amateur Operatic Society (KAOS) will be performing hits from their previous musicals in a concert which celebrates the groups’ history. In particular, they will be telling the story of their hit production — Cats — which successfully toured in both Orkney and Shetland in 2014.
