Stromness postal services to increase in run-up to Christmas
Orkney and Shetland MP Alistair Carmichael has welcomed Post Office concessions that will see the range of services available at the new Stromness post office increase in the run in to the Christmas period.
At a meeting with members of the Stromness community council last week, senior Post Office managers confirmed that customers will be able to deposit cheques from the end of October.
Concerns over the space available at the site in Argos bakery will also be addressed and the Post Office has undertaken to look again at restrictions on the type of parcels that can be accepted.
Mr Carmichael said: “It is to their credit that the representatives of the company who travelled to Orkney took these criticisms on board and will now act to address some of the issues that were raised.
“I am pleased that the Post Office has now agreed to introduce a cheque deposit facility and to look again at the type of parcels that staff at Argos can accept. It is my hope that this will make a real difference as the busy Christmas period approaches.”
