Student award winners named ahead of graduation ceremony

With Orkney College UHI’s annual graduation ceremony taking place tomorrow, Friday, the college’s Student of the Year has been named as Karen Clark.

Mrs Clark left a successful career in banking and related work in 2012, after 20 years with the local Bank of Scotland branch, and is now pursuing a long-held personal ambition to become a primary school teacher.

Now in her third year of a Child and Youth Studies degree, this is her first time studying at degree level.

Meanwhile, Orkney man Timothy Morrison is the recipient of the University of the Highlands and Islands Postgraduate Student of the Year award for 2014.

Despite ongoing health challenges, Mr Morrison has completed a Master of Literature in Orkney and Shetland Studies, through the University’s Centre for Nordic Studies, based at the Centre’s Orkney College UHI campus.
