Sunken battleship hologram arrives in Orkney
A hologram of the wreck of HMS Royal Oak, created using cutting-edge technology, has gone on display in the Orkney Museum as part of the Orkney International Science Festival.
Holoxica Ltd, a 3D holographic imaging specialist, last month unveiled the hologram, which is based on sonar images of the wreck on the seabed in Scapa Flow.
Through coupling the extreme accuracy sonar technology carried out by Advanced Underwater Surveys Ltd, with pioneering 3D rendering, Holoxica has produced a hologram that is a true representation of the current state of the HMS Royal Oak, accurate, they say, to within ten centimetres.
