Orkney Towage workers vote for industrial action
Orkney Towage employees who are members of the Unite union have voted in favour of taking industrial action over a pay and conditions dispute.
Ballot papers were issued to members on October 16, with the result coming in this week, which was almost 100% in favour of industrial action being taken.
Union spokesman Tommy Campbell said there are 19 members of the union involved in the dispute. He explained that a formal notice will be served to the management of the company at the weekend, however he added that there was still time to sit down and negotiate round the table.
A statement issued on behalf of Orkney Towage Ltd said: “The company notes the outcome of the ballot and now awaits formal notification of what action members employed by Orkney Towage plan to take; however industrial action of any kind will not be helpful for all concerned.”
