Work continues on Picky oil leak
Orkney Islands Council is continuing to work with the Pickaquoy Centre and other partner agencies to deal with the oil which has leaked within the grounds of the centre.
A leak in an oil pipe was identified at the Pickaquoy Centre last week.
The OIC says that to remove the oil, ground water is being treated on site, prior to being discharged to the surface drainage.
As the surface drains run to the Peedie Sea, extra measures have been put in place by OIC Marine Services at the outfall – namely absorbent pads and booms to ensure that there is no contamination risk to the Peedie Sea.
A statement on the issue went on to say: “The oil itself is being captured in a tank and will be disposed of through licensed facilities. This work will be carried out until council officers are satisfied that the site is clear.”
