Yesnaby cliff fall man has died
Police have said this evening, Monday, that the man who fell from the cliffs at Yesnaby this afternoon has sadly died.
Confirming the death, a statement added: “Enquiries are ongoing but there are no suspicious circumstances and no further details will be available until next of kin have been fully informed. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Stromness lifeboat crew were paged at 2.30pm today to go to Yesnaby after reports of a person falling into the water from the cliff top.
The lifeboat arrived 15 minutes later and the inflatable Y boat was launched. The Coastguard had a person on the cliff top who directed the Y boat to the casualty who was taken onboard and transferred to the main lifeboat.
The lifeboat immediately set off for Stromness and collected a Coastguard paramedic who was lowered from a helicopter off the Black Craig.
The lifeboat returned to Stromness harbour a few minutes later and was met by Coastguard and medical teams.
