31st Challenge Cup set to break from tradition

In an exciting prelude to the domestic hockey season, the 31st annual Kirkwall Ladies’ Challenge Cup is set to take place this weekend.

However, in a break from tradition from its usual Sunday slot, the competition is due to go ahead on Saturday afternoon, with a mixed tournament set to go ahead on Sunday in a first for Orkney hockey.

Last year’s Challenge Cup winners Kirkwall Ladies will be aiming to do the double, but they are set to face stiff opposition from several local teams when the competition kicks off at 12 noon.

Sunday’s mixed tournament is scheduled to start at 11am.
