Aircraft engine shut down after warning signal activated

The emergency services were called to Kirkwall Airport yesterday afternoon after the captain of a flight – which had just taken off – shut down one the aircraft’s two engines after a warning signal was activated in the cockpit.

Giving further detail a spokesman for Loganair spokesman said: “Flight BE6938 departed Kirkwall Airport at 4.38pm for Inverness. Shortly after take off the captain shut down one of the aircraft’s two engines as a precautionary measure following a warning signal on the flight deck.

“The aircraft returned to Kirkwall and landed without incident just after 5pm. It was met by the emergency services, which is standard procedure in situations like this.”

Another aircraft was later flown in to take the 32 passengers to Inverness.
