All set for big weekend of youth football

The busiest and most prestigious weekend in Orkney’s youth football calendar takes place at Picky today and tomorrow.

The Northern Counties Under-12s seven-a-side tournament — which starts at 10am today — sees Orkney sides play alongside teams from Shetland, Caithness, and sides from SPL teams Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ross County.

Later in the afternoon, there will be challenge matches between Orkney teams and Scottish Youth Football Association Central Region select sides, who have travelled north with visiting SYFA chief executive David Little.

Then, tomorrow, there will be Under-12 friendly matches incorporating teams from Orkney, Shetland and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
