Bews strike seals deserved win for Orkney FC and keeps title race alive
Erik Bews capped a fantastic individual performance with a goal as Halkirk United failed to secure the North Caledonian League title, losing 1-0 in Kirkwall this afternoon.
Man of the match Bews’ strike after 60 minutes means that it is a first ever Orkney victory over Halkirk in seven attempts, and also gives second-placed Golspie the opportunity to force the title race into a play-off if they gain three points in their upcoming match in Orkney, due to be played next weekend.
For the match itself, it was deserved victory for the home side, after what was a second half performance full of enterprise and invention. The first half was a dour and scrappy affair with a lack of clear-cut chances, but Orkney were deserved winners after a second half in which they showed greater attacking intent and created more chances than Halkirk.
