Both sides of the independence debate…

The two local sides of the independence debate will be in action this weekend.

Yes Orkney is stepping up its campaign to secure a Yes vote, with plans to take the case for an independent Scotland around the parishes and islands over the coming weeks and months.

The tour will start in Holm today, Saturday, with an open session in the Holm Community Centre this morning and a Yes Orkney in Conversation event next Wednesday evening.

Ian Carse explained: “Yes Orkney, as a non-party group campaigning for a Yes vote in this year’s referendum, is keen to have a conversation with all the people of Orkney about this vote as it seems that the majority of voters are undecided and have questions they would like to discuss with us.”

Meanwhile, Better Together is holding a coffee morning, this morning, aimed at those who support the Scotland staying in the United Kingdom, or those who are unsure of how they’re voting and are looking for more information.

Better Together Orkney local leader Cameron Stout said: “The event will be a chance to learn more about the referendum and what independence could mean for Orkney and for Scotland, as well as to meet other local activists and supporters.”

The event takes place in the Masonic Hall, West Castle Street, Kirkwall.
