By-election confirmed for November 27

Orkney Islands Council has confirmed that the by-election for the Kirkwall West and Orphir Ward, will take place on Thursday, November 27.

One of the ward’s four seats is vacant following the resignation of Jack Moodie last month.

Meanwhile, a third candidate has announced her intention to stand in the by-election — chairwoman of Orkney Health and Care, Gillian Skuse.

Ms Skuse will see competition from former OIC executive director of education, leisure and housing, Leslie Manson, and Kirkwall and St Ola community councillor, Laurence Leonard.

According to the OIC, anyone wishing to stand for election must have completed nomination forms lodged no later than 4pm on Monday, October 27.
