Champion hammer thrower meets local pupils

Secondary school pupils in Orkney had the chance to meet Scottish champion hammer thrower Chris Bennett today.

Chris (pictured above) is part of the 2014 Commonwealth Squad for Glasgow.

During his visit, he gave talks to pupils at Stromness Academy and Kirkwall Grammar School, and also held a 40-minute practical session with KGS pupils at the Pickaquoy Centre.

His visit was part of a wider Scottish Athletics programme aimed at bringing top athletes into schools to help inspire the next generation of sportspeople, and has been arranged in conjunction with Orkney Islands Council’s Active Schools team.
