Thick cloud was something of a mixed blessing for eclipse watchers this morning.

Around 70 folk made their way to the Ring of Brodgar, in Stenness, for the event, where the cloud acted as a filter allowing a good view of the early stages.

But with minutes to go until the full eclipse, a bank of thicker cloud rolled in to blot out the sun.

However, although the view of the full eclipse was somewhat marred by the weather conditions, there were numerous gaps afterward to provide a good view as the moon moved away again from the face of the sun.
