Convener pays tribute to former councillor
The convener of Orkney Islands Council has paid tribute to former Councillor Eoin Scott, who died this morning following a period of illness.
The flag above the main council offices in Kirkwall was flown at half-mast today as a mark of respect for Mr Scott, who served for three terms as an elected member of OIC.
Councillor Heddle said: “It was with great sadness that I heard that Eoin has passed away. He was always a very engaging and interesting person to be with, and a very kind and supportive colleague to me when I was new to the council.”
Mr Scott, who was a Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, was closely involved with the work of the Orkney International Science Festival, the Orkney Archaeology Society and the Orkney Liberal Democrats and served until recently as Chair of Firth and Stenness Community Council.
“Eoin was a great ambassador for Orkney,” Councillor Heddle said. “Our thoughts at this sad time are with his family and many friends.”
